Swears of Joy was born from one simple idea:

Beautiful things don’t have to behave.

I rescue vintage china — plates, cups, dishes, whatever we can get our hands on — and give them a second life with bold phrases, cheeky sayings, and the occasional unapologetic swear. No two pieces are ever the same, and that’s exactly how we like it.

It all started with a gift: a fine bone china mug with a rude but hilarious message.
It made me laugh every single time I looked at it.

Years later, after losing the friend who gave it to me, I felt drawn back to that mug — and the joy it carried. That’s when I decided to start making pieces like it for others.
Funny. Unexpected. Honest. And just the right amount of rebellious.

That friend and I used to say a phrase when we worked together:

“There we are then...”
TWAT, for short.

It summed us up perfectly — dry, silly, and just a little bit inappropriate.
