Swears of Joy began with laughter.

Fifteen years ago, one of my closest friends gave me a beautiful fine bone china mug with a completely inappropriate message. It was delicate, ridiculous, and impossible not to love. Every time I looked at it, it made me laugh — and over the years, more wonderfully sweary treasures followed.

He was the man who unknowingly started all of this.

He would have adored every mischievous, elegant, slightly unhinged piece.

When he passed away, I found myself returning to those objects again and again. They carried his humour, his warmth, and his instinct for finding joy in the unexpected.

Swears of Joy grew from that feeling — not from a business plan, but from a desire to keep that spirit alive.

We also shared a phrase when we worked together.

A quiet code we used when a situation required diplomacy… but our thoughts were rather less polite.

“There we are then.”

TWAT, for short.

Dry humour, affectionate irreverence, and just enough mischief to make life interesting.

That spirit still runs through everything I create.

Today, I take beautiful, often forgotten pieces and give them a second life. Not by changing what they are, but by revealing what they could be: honest, irreverent, and full of personality.
